Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ about contact lenses from Lens Design Ltd.
  1. Are my contact lenses inside out?  See expanded Info
  2. What is the advantage of wearing high oxygen permeable contact lenses? High oxygen permeable lenses allow the eye to maintain a metabolic state similar to not having lenses on at all. This ensures maximum comfort and quality of vision.
  3. Is laser surgery the only way that I no longer need glasses or contact lenses? Vision Shaping Therapy is a new technology available that molds your eye while you are sleeping. You remove the lenses upon waking and enjoy excellent vision all day.
  4. I have been told that I cannot wear soft lenses, is that still true today? There are many new soft lenses with advanced prescription capability that will fit eyes that only could wear hard lenses in the past. The soft lenses are much easier to wear and can be worn simply for occasions as well.
  5. How many hours can I wear my contact lenses on one day? It depends on the type of lens how long someone can wear them. Dailies and conventional lenses can be worn up to 14 hours per day. The high oxygen lenses allow to stay on the eye for 24 hours a day. You can wear them continuously up to 30 days.
  6. Do contact lenses protect my eyes from the UV-light? Some contact lenses have a special UV-light protection. But only the cornea and not the hole eyeball is protected. Therefore it is advisable to wear sunglasses additional to the contact lenses.
  7. What is the advantage of soft contact lenses? Soft contact lens materials feel comfortable immediately and require very little adaptation. Soft lenses generally have a 14.0 mm diameter which allows for a larger optical zone to see through and have little or no night vision adaptation issues. Soft lenses may perform better for sports with less movement with rapid eye movement.
  8. What are the disadvantages of soft contact lenses? Because soft lenses take the shape of the cornea, they can not be used for certain medical conditions with misshapen corneas such as Keratoconus. Soft contact lenses generally require more maintenance than hard gas permeable lenses.
  9. What is the advantage of hard gas permeable contact lenses? Hard gas permeable contact lenses can correct more complicated shapes of the cornea, like high irregular astigmatisms. Although recent advances in soft lens technology have been used more frequently to correct these type of shapes.
  10. What is the disadvantage of hard gas permeable contact lenses? Hard gas permeable lenses are rigid and do require adaptation for wearing comfort. Hard gas permeable lenses generally have to worn on a ongoing basis to assure comfort.
  11. How often should my eyes been checked? Prescription can fluctuate throughout our lifetimes. Contact lens wearers should have their fittings examined yearly.
  12. Can I wear contact lenses at any age? Age has no bearing on the success of contact lens wear. Many multi-focal lenses are available for people requiring bifocal correction.
  13. Which care product is the best for my contact lens maintenance? Generally there are two types of soft lens care systems - preserved solutions and unpreserved solutions. If your eye has adequate tear flow, the simple all in one solutions work quite well. If your tear flow is light and you have a history of allergies an unpreserved solution may be more appropriate for you.
